Hiring hiking gear is a good alternative to forking out a tonne of money on lightweight hiking gear, which isn’t feasible for many people, especially if you’re not sure whether hiking will continue to be ‘your thing’. Importantly, hiring hiking gear is a good way to ensure you have quality equipment on that adventure, but without blowing the bank, or being stuck with stuff you’re not going to use again. You can hire hiking boots, tents, sleeping bags, stoves, mats, and all sorts at these places.
So, I have taken the time to put together a list of places around Australia—you’ll see, there are a lot of places to hire hiking gear in Melbourne and Tasmania in particular—from which you can hire hiking gear. If I have missed any companies or groups let me know and I will update the list.
Looking to hire hiking gear in New Zealand? I have published a list of places in NZ too.
A lot of these places hire out PLBs too, but I will create a separate list for these.
